5 Awesome MedTech Innovations at the Wearable Technology Show

March 22, 2018 - 3 minutes read

As the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and big data continue advancing, many industries will see revolutionary updates. One industry that will have a significant impact on our day-to-day lives is MedTech development, short for Medical Technology, of the wearables market.

This year’s Wearable Technology Show, which took place on March 13th and 14th in London, showcased several awesome MedTech wearables that you might be seeing in the near future.

1. Cosinuss’ In-Ear Wearable

The German company claims its wearable can monitor heart rate, heartbeat variability, and body temperature. The wearable, dubbed the Cosinuss One, works with any Bluetooth-enabled device. In the future, the company plans to offer blood oxygen level monitoring.

2. CuraGuard’s Health Monitor

CuraGuard’s wearable sends vital sign data to the cloud in real-time. It’s designed to alert caretakers when results are abnormal or irregular; if the user falls, the device knows and calls emergency services if you’ve become unconscious.

3. Firstbeat’s Heartbeat Technology

This company’s wearable uses heartbeat data to return insights about sleep, stress, and exercise to the user. It even goes as far to create a digital model of the user’s physiology by modeling the user’s unique heart function and heartbeat variability!

4. Brook Innovations’ Smartwatch

The WatchU Guardian wearable was created to monitor kids and elderly users with a fall risk. It comes equipped with a GPS that updates once a minute with a map of past routes. The watch’s two-way phone system can be activated with a button. The company hopes it helps elderly patients live longer at home and helps to reduce wait times if the user has suffered a bad fall.

5. Aisen’s Motion Trackers

The motion tracking sensors are meant for users who are rehabilitating; the technology syncs with the Orthyo app and is attached onto the leg of the patient. The user can send real-time, precise data, measurements, and progress stats to their doctor seamlessly.

The Future Is in Real-Time

Efficient real-time monitoring and alerts have long been holy grails of the MedTech wearable space. It was also a major theme at this year’s Wearable Technology Show. The ability to seamlessly read someone’s heart rate even if they’re in London and you’re in New York City could drastically shape the landscape of healthcare.

We can’t see who sets the standard for this paradigm. Whoever succeeds at this will cement a place for themselves in the future of medical technology.
