It’s no secret that launching a mobile app can be a complex and stressful endeavor. Where you do go to find top-tier mobile app developers? How do you ensure your final product passes the guidelines of Google Play and Apple’s App Store? Where can you find customers? And how do you even fund your app’s launch?!

Although these questions just touch the tip of the iceberg, it’s easy to see how one could get overwhelmed. Fortunately, Developed | The App Economy Tour stopped by Santa Monica to help aspiring app entrepreneurs out! On February 4th, mobile app pioneers, innovators, and industry insiders gathered at The Dudes’ Brewing Co. for a night of brews, views, and eye-opening insights into the $1.3 trillion app economy.

The event was organized by ACT | The App Association. ACT is a Washington, D.C.-based public policy organization that represents more than 5,000 app companies and information technology firms leading the mobile economy. The association advocates for an environment that drives smart innovation and regulation in the tech industry.

Attendees at the Santa Monica stop of the Developed Tour had the opportunity to talk about opportunities and different paths to success in the mobile app market with local industry innovators and influencers. Discussion topics ran the gamut from the best practices for marketing and attracting prime tech talent to the latest developer tools to reduce overhead, ensure growth, and even give you a built-in customer base.

About halfway through the event, Marc Fischer, our CEO and Co-Founder, participated in a live panel discussion alongside Alex McLeod, Associate Policy Counsel of ACT; Suzanne Borders, CEO and Co-Founder of BadVR, Inc., the world’s first immersive data analytics platform; and Clayton Pasley Jr., Co-Founder of Topik, a Chicago-based mobile storytelling platform. Together, the four panel speakers got to tackle an array of questions.

Borders discussed what startup culture was like in the Los Angeles area and how small businesses should prepare to look for potential funding. Clayton delved into some of the marketing mistakes he has seen companies make and gave advice on how to properly launch a product or revamp a brand. And Alex took a swing at explaining the chaos behind the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and how small businesses could potentially use it to their advantage.

Last but not least, Marc talked about how the mobile app economy has affected software development as a whole. He also discussed how small businesses can stay competitive with major tech titans. He had an absolute blast at this event and said it was the most fun he has had in a while!

ACT’s Developed | The App Economy Tour has a few more stops on its list, including Charleston, South Carolina; New Orleans, Louisiana; Houston, Texas; and more!
