Dogtown Media Happy Hour to Benefit Blood Cancer Patients

April 7, 2017 - 2 minutes read

Blood cancer. It’s something that happens to other people, right? Unfortunately, it’s all too common, and can strike at any time — a fact that hit close to home for us at Dogtown this past December, when the brother of one of our team members was diagnosed with a rare for of leukemia.

The fight against cancer isn’t easy, but we’re trying our best to make it social for those who are willing to do their part. Our rooftop happy hour event today (Friday April 7th, 6–9PM) will make it easy for those interested to learn about leukemia in a friendly, life-affirming environment.

Bone marrow transplants are one of the keys to fighting this deadly illness, but reserves are often short. It’s not as simple as giving blood once a year, but for patients, access to bone marrow transplants can literally be the difference between life and death. Blood cancer claims a life in the US every nine minutes. But for those without affected friends and family, it might not cross your mind to consider donating. That’s why we’ve partnered with Be the Match, a nonprofit that manages the largest and most diverse marrow registry in the world, to enlist new donors.

“We are honored to partner with Be the Match and have the opportunity to make a positive impact on so many people’s lives,” says Dogtown Media CEO, Marc Fischer.

Please join us for drinks and good company on this fine Friday, and learn more about how you — yes, you — can make a difference in the life of a leukemia patient.

Register here if you plan to attend, or go to BeTheMatch if you are unable to attend but interested in registering as a donor.
