New Playboy iPhone App Keeps It Clean

April 1, 2013 - 1 minute read

The infamous playboy magazine launches its iPhone app but keeps it classy with no nudity. Apple is well known for it’s tight rules on app submissions and doesn’t allow pornographic material. Josh Schollmeyer, Playboy‘s Director of Digital Content reflects “It forces us to use our imagination to be a little bit more creative,” he says. “I tell all my photographers every picture has to be one of three things. It has to be romantic, whimsical or sexy.”

iPhone users can downooad the app free from Apples’s app store but to view some of the cotent a monthly subscription costing $1.99 is required. That will buy the user exclusive content about The Good Life (travel, food, drink, cars, gear, style) will augment long-form interviews and articles.

Schollmeyer talked stated about the the content “With each subject area, whether it’s food, drink, politics or models, we try to find a very distinctive Playboy take”.

Do you think the Apple app store is to restrictive? We’d love to hear your views. As an iPad app developer in Los Angeles we continually ensure our customers apps push the limits of current technology but adhere to Apple’s strict standards. We regularly talk to other  local iPhone app developers to ensure we dont fall into any pitfalls they’ve encountered.
